Arsenal are set to step up their interest in Manchester United target Aleksandar Dragovic by sending scouts to watch the €21m-rated defender in action this week, according to reports.
Dragovic joined Dinamo Kiev from FC Basel in 2013 and he’s become a key player for the Ukrainian outfit over the past 18 months, helping them lift the Ukrainian Cup last season while they remain firmly on course to win the league title this campaign.
The centre-backs impressive form has attracted interest from all over Europe and Manchester United were strongly linked with €21m (£15m) a move for the 24-year-old during the January transfer window, but in the end a move failed to materialise.
Louis van Gaal is believed to be continuing to keep a close eye on Dragovic’s progress ahead of the summer transfer window but it appears the Red Devils may now face some stiff competition as the Express claim that Arsenal have now stepped up their interest in the player.
The newspaper reports that Arsene Wenger has instructed his scouts to watch the Austrian international during Kiev’s Europa League clash with Everton on Thursday night.
The Gunners signed Gabriel Paulista in January but it appears Wenger is still on the look-out for another centre-back, which could call into question the long-term future of Per Mertesacker.
Dragovic would be an interesting option and Arsenal shouldn’t have too many problems persuading the player to join as he’s previously admitted that it would be a dream to move to the Emirates.
During an interview with Austrian outlet Sportnet.at in December, Dragovic said:
Of course, you can hear a lot of rumours, but I still have three and a half year contract with Dynamo Kiev. If something is on the table, I’ll look at it myself. I can not influence anything. But yes, Arsenal is a childhood dream.

It remains to be seen whether Wenger will follow up his interest with a formal offer this summer but I still wouldn’t discount Man Utd from the race as their defence is clearly in need of an overhaul and Dragovic could be the kind of no-nonsense defender they require.
