Daniel Sturridge is being assessed by England medical staff after picking up a hip injury during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
The striker completed the full ninety minutes and got himself on the score-sheet midway through the second half as Liverpool tried in vain to avoid defeat against their bitter rivals.
However, widespread reports this afternoon claim Sturridge was seen limping as he left Anfield and is now a doubt for England’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Lithuania on Friday night.
The Express report that the 26-year-old is set to be assessed by England’s medical staff this afternoon but he could join Liverpool team-mate Adam Lallana in withdrawing from the squad after the midfielder pulled-out with a groin problem.
In what’s a triple worry for Liverpool, Raheem Sterling is also believed to be struggling with a toe injury. The Express claim that Sterling is likely to be risked against Lithuania, but Roy Hodgson is expected to rest the youngster for next weeks friendly against Italy.
Liverpool chiefs will be in constant contact with their England counter-parts to find out the latest on their two attackers because it would be a major blow if they were ruled out for any period of time.
The Merseysider’s now sit five points adrift of fourth-placed Man Utd in the Premier League table and with Arsenal away up next after the international break, it would be devastating for their Champions League qualification hopes if Sturridge and/or Sterling were to miss that game.
