Man Utd & Arsenal Eyeing Move For €16m-Rated Austrian Star
Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Arsenal target Aleksandar Dragovic ahead of a potential move for the Dynamo Kiev centre-back this summer
The January transfer window is now closed but that won’t stop the newspapers from speculating ahead of the summer so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Man Utd are eyeing a move for Arsenal target Aleksandar Dragovic….
Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Arsenal target Aleksandar Dragovic ahead of a potential move for the Dynamo Kiev centre-back this summer, according to reports.
Dragovic joined Kiev from FC Basel in 2013 and has become a key player for the Ukrainian outfit over the past 18 months, helping them lift the Ukrainian Cup last season while they remain firmly on course to winning the league title this campaign.
It appears his impressive form has attracted interest from the Premier League as the Mirror are reporting that Manchester United are continuing to monitor his progress closely ahead of a potential summer swoop.
Louis van Gaal is on the look-out for a new centre-back and although Mats Hummels is understood to be his top priority, the Dutchman is keeping his options open by also having Dragovic watched by his scouts on a regular basis.
However, the Red Devils could face some stiff competition for the 24-year-old’s signature as the newspaper suggests that Arsenal are also keen with Arsene Wenger in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer.
The Gunners signed Gabriel Paulista in January but the papers still believe Wenger wants another centre-back which would cast doubt over the long-term future of Per Mertesacker.
The Mirror claim it would take a bid of around €16m (£12m) to persuade Kiev to cash in on Dragovic, which seems like an excellent deal in today’s market for a player with so much potential and who’s approaching the prime of his career.
It remains to be seen if either United or Arsenal make their interest official this summer but if they do then it appears the North Londoners may be in pole position to sign the defender as Dragovic was recently quoted as saying that playing for the Gunners is a childhood dream.
During an interview with Austrian outlet Sportnet.at in December, Dragovic said:
Of course, you can hear a lot of rumours, but I still have three and a half year contract with Dynamo Kiev. If something is on the table, I’ll look at it myself. I can not influence anything. But yes, Arsenal is a childhood dream.

So it appears Dragovic has a soft spot for Arsenal but I’m sure he’d still jump at the chance of signing for United if Wenger turns his attention to another target at the end of the season.
van Gaal needs to sign a no nonsense defender this summer and while I’m sure fans would prefer to see a big name star like Hummels arrive, Dragovic would be an interesting option if they fail to lure the German international away from Borussia Dortmund.
