Casillas Snubs Liverpool For Arsenal After Talks As Real Make Room For De Gea
Iker Casillas is set to snub Liverpool and join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer as Real Madrid prepare to make room for Manchester United’s David De Gea
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, many have been suggesting the transfers Arsenal need to make to win the title next season but will Arsene Wenger listen? Today, the Frenchman is linked with Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas….
Iker Casillas is set to snub Liverpool and join Arsenal on a free transfer this summer as Real Madrid prepare to make room for Manchester United’s David De Gea, according to reports today.
Casillas has been at the Bernabeu his entire career and he was expected to remain at his boyhood club for the final two-years of his contract before potentially seeing out his final playing days in the MLS.
But it seems there’s been a change of plan as La Sexta are reporting that with Madrid eyeing a move for United’s De Gea, they’ve agreed to pay-out the remaining two years of Casillas’ deal and allow him to leave on a free transfer this summer.
The Spanish outlet claims that the 33-year-old keeper has agreed to leave, and despite reported interest from Liverpool, La Sexta suggest that Casillas has already decided to join Arsenal after holding talks with Arsene Wenger.
The British press have also picked up on this story with the Express toeing a similar line and they claim that with Casillas heading for the Emirates, it will pave the way for Madrid to make a big-money swoop for De Gea.
The Spaniard is set to enter the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and there has been widespread speculation linking him with a move to the European champions over the past few months.
United are desperate to tie him down to an extension but the lure of returning to Spain to play for Madrid could prove to be too tempting for the young shot-stopper.

If these reports are accurate then it looks United are going to struggle to hang on to their No.1 but Arsenal could be set to snap-up a hugely experienced goalkeeper for nothing and this would surely see Wojciech Szczesny leave the club this summer.
The Polish international has lost his place to David Ospina in recent months and if Casillas comes in, there’s no way Arsene Wenger will be able to keep all three of them happy and Szczesny would be the most likely to make way.
