Steven Gerrard scored a consolation on his final Premier League appearance but Liverpool were thrashed 6-1 by Stoke City at the Britannia this afternoon.
The hosts opened the scoring in the 22nd minute when Mame Biram Diouf was on hand to tap home from close range after Simon Mignolet could only parry Charlie Adam’s effort.
Diouf then made it 2-0 shortly after when he lashed home a powerful effort from the edge of the area before Jonathan Walters made it 3-0 with a close range header to make it three goals in just eight minutes.
It got a whole lot worse for Liverpool when Adam robbed Lucas of possession before drilling home from the edge of the area before Stephen N’Zonzi made it 5-0 at the break with a wonderful 25-yard curler.
Gerrard ensured he signed off with another goal as he latched on to a Lambert flick-on to make it 5-1 before former Red Peter Crouch made it 6-1 with a late header.
