According to reports today, Liverpool are lining-up a double swoop on Monaco for Geoffrey Kondogbia and Aymen Abdennour – who have both also been linked with a move to Arsenal.
It appears that despite a hugely disappointing campaign that ended with Liverpool finishing sixth following their 6-1 loss to Stoke City on Sunday, Brendan Rodgers is set to keep his job and is already planning ahead of for next season.
The Metro are citing reports coming out of France from newspaper L’Equipe who claim the Reds are lining-up a double swoop on Monaco for midfielder Kondogbia and centre-back Abdennour.
The Ligue 1 outfit need to sell several of their key players this summer in order to meet UEFA’s financial fair play rules and it appears Liverpool are ready to offer them a tempting double-deal to cash-in on two of their most prized assets.
Kondogbia has enjoyed another impressive year with his dominant display in the middle of the park during Monaco’s 3-1 Champions League victory over Arsenal at the Emirates a particular highlight.
Reports have suggested the Gunners are showing a keen interest in the 22-year-old with Arsene Wenger on the look out for another defensive midfielder as the likes of Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are expected to leave this summer.
However, it seems the North Londoners will now face stiff competition from Liverpool with L’Equipe suggest Brendan Rodgers is also eyeing a bid for the €35m-rated midfielder.
The Merseysiders need to rebuild after a poor season and with Lucas Leiva tipped for a move to Italy, it appears Rodgers has set his sights on Kondogbia and wants to build his new-look team around the French international.
In what could be a double deal, L’Equipe suggest that Liverpool are also keen on Abdennour after the Tunisian defender became one of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe following an excellent season at the Stade Louis II Stadium.
However, the 25-year-old won’t come cheap as the report suggests he’ll could cost in the region of €30m (£21.5m), while he’s also been linked with a move to Arsenal, so it appears the Merseysiders are going to have to battle-it-out with their Premier League rivals once again.
