Liverpool Hoping To Hijack Arsenal’s €35m Move For 32-Goal Hitman
Liverpool are hoping to hijack Arsenal’s move for Jackson Martinez after being given the chance to sign the Colombian hitman for €35m this summer.
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Liverpool are linked with Jackson Martinez….
Liverpool are hoping to hijack Arsenal’s move for Jackson Martinez after being given the chance to sign the Colombian hitman for €35m this summer, according to reports.
Martinez has been one of the most prolific strikers in European football over the past two seasons and he continued his excellent form in front of goal for Porto last term with 32 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions.
The 28-year-old has constantly been linked with a move to the Premier League with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham all reportedly keeping a close eye on his progress in recent months.
It looked like the striker was heading to the Emirates this summer as reports earlier this week claimed that Martinez has agreed personal terms with the Gunners ahead of a potential €35m (£25m) move to North London.
Many feel Arsenal are a top class finisher short of being genuine Premier League title challengers next season and it looked as though Arsene Wenger was finally ready to splash the cash on a new striker.
However, it seems the Frenchman may be stalling on completing the deal as the Metro are citing reports coming out of Portugal that claim Liverpool could hijack the deal after being offered the chance to sign Martinez this summer.
Brendan Rodgers is in the market for another striker after the Reds struggled badly in front in of goal last season with Daniel Sturridge unable to keep himself fit while Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert endured disappointing campaign’s following their moves to the club.
It appears Rodgers is looking to address this problem by bringing in Martinez this summer as Portuguese outlet O Jogo suggest that Liverpool are now hoping to lure the Colombian hitman to Anfield as part of a €35m deal.

It remains to be seen how much truth there is behind any of these reports and it could just be the players agent trying to drum up interest in his client by leaking stories to the newspapers, but Martinez would be a great addition for either Arsenal or Liverpool if they did decide to push ahead with a deal.
He’s got all the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League and as his record shows, he clearly knows where the goal is, so I think Wenger and Rodgers could do a lot worse than taking a punt on the Porto star this summer.
