Wenger Blow As Agent Pushes €35m Target Towards Chelsea Or Man Utd Move
Arsenal have received a blow in their pursuit of Jackson Martinez as super-agent Jorge Mendes is trying to engineer a move to either Chelsea or Man Utd.
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal target Jackson Martinez is being linked with Chelsea and Man Utd…
Arsenal have received a blow in their pursuit of Jackson Martinez as super-agent Jorge Mendes is trying to engineer a move to either Chelsea or Manchester United this summer, according to reports.
Martinez has just come off the back of another prolific season at FC Porto where he scored 32 goals in just 42 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese giants.
The 28-year-old is set to finally make a big-money move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer and his impressive form has led to widespread speculation of a possible move to the Premier League.
Reports earlier this week claimed that Arsenal were in pole position to sign the Colombian international after supposedly agreeing personal terms ahead of a proposed €35m (£25m) move to the Emirates.
Many feel Arsenal are a world class finisher away from being genuine title challengers next season and there’s no doubt a player as deadly as Martinez would add a new dimension to the North Londoner’s attack.
However, any potential deal could now be in jeopardy as the Express are citing reports coming out of Portugal which claim that super-agent Jorge Mendes is trying to derail a move to Arsenal and is pushing the striker towards Chelsea or Manchester United.
Mendes isn’t even Martinez’s main agent, as the player is represented by Luis Henrique Pompeu, but the newspaper suggests that he’s still heavily involved in trying to find the striker a new club and is keen to secure a deal with Chelsea or United.
Mendes has a close working relationship with the pair having done plenty of business with them in the past, but he has less of a track record with Arsenal and it seems this could be working Arsene Wenger’s men.
The report – which stems from Portuguese outlet O Jogo – suggests that the Gunners remain in the driving seat for now but with Mendes trying to influence proceedings, a move to Stamford Bridge or Old Trafford can’t be ruled out.
Jose Mourinho is in the market for a new striker to replace Didier Drogba while Louis van Gaal is also on the look-out for another front-man after rejecting the chance to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis, and Martinez would bring a real goal threat to either team.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see where Martinez ends up but is seems Arsenal would do well to try and push through the deal before Mendes persuades Chelsea or United to get involved.
Either way, let’s hope we see Martinez come to the Premier League this summer as he has all the attributes needed to be a success here in England.
