Mourinho Ready To Hijack Arsenal & Man Utd With €41m Bid For 29-Goal Striker
Chelsea are ready to hijack Arsenal and Manchester United’s attempts to sign Gonzalo Higuain by tabling a €41m bid for the Napoli striker, according to reports.
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Chelsea join the chase for Gonzalo Higuain….
Chelsea are ready to hijack Arsenal and Manchester United’s attempts to sign Gonzalo Higuain by tabling a €41m bid for the Napoli striker, according to reports.
Higuain has long been linked with a move to the Premier League and rumours intensified earlier this week when reports claimed that Arsenal and Manchester United were in talks with the strikers camp about a potential move this summer.
However, it appears the duo will now have to face even more competition as the Daily Star are citing reports coming out of Italy that claim Chelsea have entered the race for Higuain’s signature.
The newspaper suggests that Jose Mourinho is keen to bring the Argentinean international to Stamford Bridge this summer and is now ready to test Napoli’s resolve with a €41m (£30m) bid.
The Blues are in the market for another striker to replace Didier Drogba and Higuain certainly has the pedigree to play for the Premier League champions, with the 27-year-old scoring 29 goals in 58 appearances last season.
That took his tally to 53 since moving to Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013 so he’d most definitely bring a real goal threat to the Chelsea attack if he was to make the move to West London, and Mourinho knows the player well from their time together at the Bernabeu.
We’ll have to wait and see how Napoli react if Chelsea do table a €41m offer but Higuain’s future has come under serious doubt following Rafa Benitez’s exit and the clubs failure to qualify for the Champions League, so a move to Chelsea could be on the cards.

However, I wouldn’t discount Arsenal or Manchester United from the race just yet. Arsene Wenger is also believed to be in the market for another striker to compliment Olivier Giroud and Higuain could be the world class finisher the Gunners need to make them genuine title challengers next season.
Louis van Gaal is expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer and he needs to bring in another front man after rejecting the chance to sign Radamel Falcao on a permanent basis, and the Dutchman would surely love to add a goal-threat like Higuain to his ranks.
We’ll have to see how things develop over the coming weeks but I’d love to see the Argentine come to the Premier League and it looks as though he won’t be short of offers.
