Arsenal Or Liverpool? Agent Confirms 32-Goal Striker Has Agreed €35m Move
The agent of Arsenal and Liverpool target Jackson Martinez claims the striker has agreed to join a top European club and will seal a €35m move shortly.
As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Jackson Martinez is set to make a big-money move…
The agent of Arsenal and Liverpool target Jackson Martinez claims the striker has agreed to join a ‘top European club’ and will seal a €35m move from Porto in the coming days, according to reports.
Martinez has been one of the most prolific strikers in European football in recent years and he continued his fine form in front of goal last season after scoring 32 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for Porto.
The 28-year-old’s impressive form has attracted interest from the Premier League with Arsenal strongly linked with a move for the Colombian international and there were even reports last month suggesting the striker had agreed personal terms over a move to the Emirates.
Speculation coming out of Portugal then claimed that Liverpool were looking to try and hijack Arsenal’s attempts to sign the South American with Brendan Rodgers keen to add to his strike force after a disappointing campaign that saw them register just 52 league goals.
There has been a further interesting development today as Martinez’s representative, Luiz Henrique Pompeo, has been quoted as telling the media that a mystery club has now agreed to meet his €35m (£25m) buy-out clause and the striker will supposedly complete a move to a ‘top European club’ over the coming days.
“The departure from Porto will be a reality in the coming days. Just details are missing.”
“Porto will receive the full €35m [£25m] of his release clause. Jackson will continue in a top European club.” Pompeo is quoted as saying by the Express
So it seems Martinez will be at his new club shortly and it’s going to be extremely interesting to see who this mystery club is. The bookmakers have Arsenal as slight favourites ahead of AC Milan, but Liverpool have dropped off slightly following the arrival of Danny Ings.

Arsene Wenger is believed to be in the market for another striker to compliment the likes of Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck next season and Martinez certainly has the fire-power to make the Gunners genuine title challengers, but we’ll have to wait and see whether the Arsenal boss has decided to splash €35m on the Porto hitman.
I’d personally be surprised if Wenger has decided to spend that kind of money on a 28-year-old who hasn’t really proven himself outside of Portugal but you never know, stranger things have happened in football….
