As the opening of the summer transfer window approaches, managers are working hard identifying targets and lining-up potential deals so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a transfer boost….
Arsenal and Liverpool have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Jackson Martinez after the strikers agent denied a deal with AC Milan has been agreed, according to reports.
Martinez has just come off the back of another prolific season with Porto that saw him score 32 goals in 42 appearances but the Colombian international has been strongly tipped to make a big-money move this summer.
Reports last month claimed that Arsenal were closing in on a deal for the 28-year-old hitman while further speculation suggested that Liverpool were ready to hijack the Gunners attempts to sign the striker.
It appeared the Premier League duo had missed out as reports emerged from Italy last night that AC Milan had agreed to meet the players €35m (£25m) buy-out clause and had supposedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Martinez too.
However, it appears those reports were premature as the South American international’s agent Luiz Henrique Pompeo has now confirmed that while they are in talks with AC Milan, a deal is not yet agreed and he also revealed they have an offer from another ‘top club’.
“Milan we really like, it is a top club, but on the scales we also have an offer from another top club,” Pompeo is quoted as saying by talkSPORT
“We have to meet again with (Milan CEO, Adriano) Galliani between tomorrow and the day after, there are still things to be placed, the agreement has not yet been completed.
“How is the situation between Milan and Porto? I do not know, I do not take part in the negotiations between the clubs.”
It’s not yet clear who the second mystery club is but with the recent reports of interest from Arsenal and Liverpool, there is a chance it could be one of the Premier League duo who’re still in the running for Martinez’s signature.

The Gunners are on the look-out for a top class striker to compete with Olivier Giroud next season and Martinez would certainly have the fire-power to make the North Londoners genuine title-challengers again.
However, we can’t discount Liverpool as Brendan Rodgers wants to beef up his attack after a disappointing campaign that saw them only register 52 goals – although it remains to be seen whether the Merseysiders will bring in another front-man after agreeing a deal to sign Danny Ings, so if my money was on one of the English clubs it would be Arsenal.
