Liverpool: Striker To Undergo Medical On Monday After Reds Agree Deal
Christian Benteke will undergo his Liverpool medical in London on Monday after the Reds agreed terms with Aston Villa over how the £32.5m fee will be paid
With the summer transfer window finally open for business, managers are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of next season so we’ll bring you all the news and gossip. Today, Liverpool close-in on Christian Benteke….
Christian Benteke will undergo his Liverpool medical in London on Monday after the Reds finally agreed terms with Aston Villa over how the £32.5m transfer fee will be paid, according to the Daily Mail.
Liverpool have been on Benteke’s trail all summer and moved into pole position for his signature after reluctantly agreeing to meet the £32.5m release clause written into his contract last Thursday, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
The two clubs have been trying to thrash out the finer details on how the payment will be structured over the past two days but it looks like a breakthrough has been reached.
The Daily Mail are one of several media outlets who are claiming that an agreement has now been found following lengthy talks between Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre and Villa chief executive Tom Fox.
The newspaper says that Benteke will now head to London to undergo his medical on Monday with Liverpool doctor Andy Massey set to fly back from the clubs pre-season tour to oversee proceedings. Assuming everything goes smoothly, the striker will then become the Reds seventh signing of the summer.
Brendan Rodgers has been extremely busy in the transfer market this summer but strengthening his strike-force was always going to be a priority after Liverpool only managed to score 52 league goals last season, and Benteke should certainly help out on that front.
The Belgian international has scored 49 goals in 101 games for a very average Villa side since joining the club from Genk in 2012 so he should give Liverpool another real threat in the final third next season.
With Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino already snapped-up this summer, the addition of Benteke will give Rodgers another valuable option up front and help ease the load on Daniel Sturridge following his struggle with injury over the past 12 months.

The Mail claim that once Benteke completes the formality of his move, the 24-year-old won’t fly out to play in Liverpool’s final pre-season game in Kuala Lumpur on Friday and will instead train at Melwood where he’ll be joined by Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho – who return to training on Wednesday.
