Tottenham Team News: Pochettino Confirms Quartet Are Doubts To Face Man Utd
Maurcio Pochettino has confirmed that he’s sweating on the fitness of four first team players ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Manchester United.
Tottenham Hotspur face a tricky start the new season when they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.
Ahead of the game, manager Mauricio Pochettino has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference today and has given TottenhamHotspur.com a team news and injury update.
The Spurs boss revealed that he’s sweating on the fitness of four first team squad players with Hugo Lloris, Ryan Mason, Andros Townsend and Roberto Soldado all doubts to start the match tomorrow.
Lloris fractured his wrist earlier in the summer and although he made an early return to action with a 35 minute run-out against AC Milan in midweek, Pochettino doubts the French international will be able to play the full ninety minutes against United.
Mason also returned from injury after playing 35 minutes against Milan on Wednesday night but the midfielder is also highly unlikely to be deemed fit enough to start tomorrow.
Pochettino also has problems in attack with Soldado struggling with a back injury while Townsend is still carrying a shoulder issue he picked up against Reading earlier in pre-season.
All four players will be assessed during their final training session this afternoon before their participation at Old Trafford is determined.
Pochettino told the clubs website:
“We have a good feeling for Hugo and Ryan, maybe not to compete for 90 minutes, but to be in the squad.
“Soldado didn’t play in the Audi Cup because of a problem in his lower back, Andros also has a problem in his shoulder. We need to assess them in the last training session today.”
With Lloris likely to be ruled out due to a lack of match practice, Michel Vorm is on stand-by to start between the sticks having kept goal for most of pre-season while Eric Dier, Dele Ali and Tom Carroll could all be pushing for a start in midfield if Ryan Mason is also declared unfit to start.
