Man Utd & Liverpool Duo Emerge As Injury Doubts
Man Utd forward Wayne Rooney and Liverpool striker Danny Ings have emerged as injury doubts after missing training ahead of England’s game against Estonia
Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney and Liverpool striker Danny Ings have emerged as injury doubts after missing training ahead of England’s clash against Estonia, according to the Daily Mail.
Rooney sat out of England’s training session on Tuesday due to an unspecified injury as Roy Hodgson put his players through their paces as they prepare to welcome Estonia to Wembley on Friday.
Ings was called up to the England squad for the first time last week and was hoping to earn his first senior cap after an impressive start to his career at Anfield but he also missed training at St George’s Park today due to an ankle problem.
The strikers will now be monitored by medical staff over the coming days but the Daily Mail claim they are considered as a doubts for the Euro 2016 qualifier.
One man who is certain to miss out is Everton’s John Stones as the defender has been withdrawn from the squad and Tottenham duo Andros Townsend and Kyle Walker have been called up as back-up.
With Stones out, Manchester United defender Chris Smalling could partner Gary Cahill in the centre of defence after an excellent start to the new season.
Should Rooney and Ings both be ruled out, Harry Kane or Jamie Vardy could lead the line, although Theo Walcott could also be a viable option after establishing himself as Arsenal’s leading striker this term.
England have already qualified for next summer’s European Championships but Hodgson will be keen to secure victories over Estonia and Lithuania to maintain their 100% qualifying record.
