Klopp Blow As Liverpool Fear Defender Will Miss Rest Of Season
Jurgen Klopp has been dealt his first major blow as Liverpool manager with the club fearing Joe Gomez will be ruled out for the rest of the season.
Jurgen Klopp has been dealt his first major blow as Liverpool manager with the club fearing Joe Gomez will be ruled out for the rest of the season, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Gomez was forced off during the final stages of England Under-21’s 3-0 victory over Kazakhstan last night after picking up a knee injury.
The Reds initially only thought the problem was a minor one and the 18-year-old returned to Melwood on Wednesday to be further assessed by the Liverpool medical team.
However, it appears the injury is much worse than first thought as the Liverpool Echo are one of several media outlets who’re reporting this evening that Gomez has in fact suffered a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The newspaper says that scan results have shown significant damage to the teenagers ACL and if the injury is confirmed, Gomez will be out for between 6 to 9 months, all-but ending his season.
Liverpool will send the defender for further assessment but if he is ruled out for the rest of the campaign, it will come as a huge blow as Gomez has enjoyed an excellent start to life at Anfield following his move from Charlton in the summer.
The youngster was a regular under former boss Brendan Rodgers and started all of Liverpool’s first six Premier League games this season. No doubt he’d have been hoping to impress his new manager but it now looks likely that Klopp will be without the players services until next season.
