Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Duo Could Return vs Man City
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that two players could return to the squad to face Manchester City on Monday night. See what the boss has had to say here
Arsenal will look to give their Premier League title challenge a major boost when they entertain Manchester City at the Emirates on Monday night.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given the latest team and injury news.
Thankfully the boss confirmed that we’ve suffered no fresh injury concerns following Sunday’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa and there could be one or two players returning from injury to face City.
One of those could be Alexis Sanchez with Wenger revealing that the Chilean international is back running after missing the last three games with a hamstring injury picked up against Norwich last month.
The 26-year-old is keen to feature on Monday night, but Wenger insists he will make the final decision as to whether he’ll be in the squad or not.
The boss didn’t divulge who the second returnee could be but Mikel Arteta is likely to be the player in question as he’s the closest to returning to fitness behind Sanchez as he looks to overcome his latest calf injury.
Here is what Arsene is quoted as saying by ESPN this morning:
“Everybody who played against Villa is available for Monday,”
“There is one or two possible comebacks. Alexis Sanchez is a possibility — he is running.”
“I believe that he wants to play. You want him to be keen to play. He respects my decisions. That’s what you want.”
Sanchez’s return would be a major boost as we look to make a real statement in this seasons title race with victory over Manchester City on Monday night.
We head in to the game sitting just one point above City in second position in the table so this match is going to prove pivotal in our title push, and having Alexis available for selection is only going to increase our chances of getting a positive result.
