Arsenal Team News: Wenger Confirms Injury Boost + Offers Sanchez Update
Arsene Wenger has confirmed an injury boost ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Newcastle while he’s also given an update on Alexis Sanchez.
Arsenal will look to cement their position at the top of the Premier League table when we take on Newcastle United at the Emirates on Saturday.
Ahead of the game, Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this morning and he’s given reporters a team news and injury update.
The boss was pleased to confirm a fitness boost with the news that Mathieu Flamini should be back in the squad after missing our 2-0 victory over AFC Bournemouth on Monday with a minor muscle problem.
The boss also revealed that Alexis Sanchez won’t recover from a niggling hamstring injury in time to face Newcastle but he could be back in contention when we entertain Sunderland in the third round of the FA Cup next Saturday.
Thankfully we didn’t suffer any fresh injury concerns against Bournemouth and Wenger has confirmed that he’ll look to mix things up again this weekend after making four changes to his starting eleven last time out.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Express:
“Certainly we will rotate again. Mathieu Flamini has a chance to come back and I think Alexis Sanchez is a bit short. Alexis will be back in one week, maybe against Sunderland. Everybody else in the squad against Bournemouth should be available.”
Calum Chambers filled-in alongside Aaron Ramsey in midfield against the Cherries but the youngster could drop back to the bench if Flamini is passed fit to play against the Geordies this weekend.
It will be interesting to see if Gabriel keeps his place in defence after a superb outing on Monday night while Joel Campbell and Nacho Monreal could be set for recalls after being rested against Bournemouth.
