Arsenal Boss Reveals Huge Triple Injury Boost
Arsene Wenger has revealed a huge triple injury boost after confirming that three of his key players are closing in on their injury returns.
Arsene Wenger has revealed a huge triple injury boost after telling talkSPORT that Francis Coquelin, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta are all closing in on their injury returns.
Our midfield options have been decimated over the past few months as Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky have also been on the sidelines along with Coquelin, Cazorla and Arteta.
Coquelin has been out since suffering a knee ligament injury against West Brom back in November and he was quickly joined on the sidelines by Cazorla after the Spaniard also picked up a serious knee injury against Norwich.
Arteta on the other hand has been plagued by injury problems all season with a chronic calf issue restricting the 33-year-old to just two first team starts all campaign.
The lack of options in the middle of the park has led to speculation that Wenger will be bringing in another central midfielder this month and although the boss has confirmed he hopes to do some business soon, he isn’t looking to bring in too many new faces as three midfielders are on the comeback trail.
Wenger is quoted as saying by talkSPORT that Arteta is now available, Coquelin is already running again while Cazorla is expected back in mid-February – which is a month earlier than his initial diagnosis.
“I don’t give much away [about transfers] because I don’t know [what’s going on].” Wenger said.
“I want to talk about them and hopefully we are capable of doing something in the next 10 days.
“It’s more about quality than quantity because our players will not stay out injured forever. Francis Coquelin is starting to run, Santi Cazorla will be back in mid-February, and Mikel Arteta is back now so, hopefully, if we can add one and, if needed, two maximum.”
This is excellent news and it sounds like Coquelin is well on the way to making a swift recovery from his knee injury while it would be a huge boost if Cazorla was back in contention by mid-February.
There were question marks as to whether Santi would be back before the end of March so to have him available next month would be a major boost heading into the final stages of the season.
