It’s advantage Liverpool as a Jordon Ibe strike secured a 1-0 win over Stoke City in their Capital One Cup semi-final first leg at the Britannia Stadium on Tuesday night.
Ibe was an early substitute as he replaced Philippe Coutinho in the 18th minute after the Brazilian international had suffered a hamstring injury.
The young winger took his chance to impress after he fired home in the 37th minute to finish off a fine move involving Roberto Firmino and Joe Allen.
Stoke pushed for an equaliser after the break but they struggled to create any clear cut chances against a strong Liverpool defence so the Reds held on to secure a crucial 1-0 victory.
Jurgen Klopp’s men are now the heavy favourites to book a place in the final of the League Cup as they will take a 1-0 lead into the second leg at Anfield in three weeks time.
