Arsenal Boss Confirms Arrival Of First January Signing

With the winter transfer window now open for business, manager’s are working hard trying to strengthen their squads ahead of the second half of the season. Today, Arsenal have sealed a deal for Mohamed Elneny….
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Mohamed Elneny is already considered an Arsenal player and he could make his debut against Stoke City on Sunday, according to the Mirror.
The boss has admitted for several weeks that he planned to strengthen his options in the middle of the park this month after several midfielders were sidelined through injury and Elneny has emerged as a likely target.
The Egyptian international has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks and it looked like we were on the verge of wrapping-up a deal after ESPN reported last week that we had agreed a £7 million fee with Swiss champions FC Basel for his signature.
Work permit complications have delayed the transfer but it appears we’ve finally got the deal over the line as Arsene Wenger revealed on Wednesday night that Elneny has joined Arsenal and could even make his debut against Stoke on Sunday.
Speaking after our thrilling 3-3 draw at Liverpool last night, Wenger is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Elneny will of course join us. He has joined us. We will see if he can qualify for Sunday.”
So it seems we’ve now sealed our first signing of the January window and official confirmation is expected at some point today. We’ll then be in a race against time to get him registered in time to make him eligible to be in the squad to face Stoke at the weekend.
Elneny’s arrival is an important one as our midfield options have been decimated during the first half of the season with Francis Coquelin, Mikel Arteta, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla all spending lengthy spells on the sidelines.
