Arsene Wenger Offers Alexis Sanchez Injury Update

Arsene Wenger has offered an update on the fitness of Alexis Sanchez and maintains the attacker has a chance to be in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Stoke City.

Sanchez has been on the sidelines in recent weeks nursing a hamstring injury which he picked up during our 1-1 draw at Norwich City in late November of last year.

The Chilean international was due to return for the clash with Manchester City just before Christmas but his comeback was delayed after he suffered a set-back in training.

However, it looks like the 27-year-old could finally return to the squad this weekend as Wenger says Sanchez will have a late fitness test on Saturday but has an ‘opportunity’ to make the trip to the Britannia on Sunday.

Speaking after our 3-3 draw at Liverpool last night, the boss told Arsenal.com:

I will be cautious now. There is an opportunity that he will be in the squad for Sunday. He will have a definite test on Saturday and Friday and Saturday will be two important days for him. It is not impossible that he will be involved.

Sanchez’s return will come as a major boost as we’ve sorely missed him over the past seven weeks and it’s vital we get a win at Stoke this weekend after letting two points slip at Anfield last night.

The draw saw our two point lead at the to of the table vanish and we’re now only in first place on goal difference from Leicester City so it’s important we get back to winning ways on Sunday and Sanchez return will be a big boost.
