Arsenal Rocked As Wenger Confirms Cech & Koscielny Will Miss Tottenham Clash
Arsenal have been rocked by a huge double injury blow with Arsene Wenger confirming Petr Cech and Laurent Koscielny will miss Saturday’s game against Tottenham.
Arsenal have been rocked by a huge double injury blow with Arsene Wenger confirming Petr Cech and Laurent Koscielny will miss Saturday’s huge game against Tottenham.
Koscielny missed Wednesday night’s disastrous 2-1 defeat to Swansea City at the Emirates after picking up a calf injury in training and the Gunners boss confirmed that the centre-back won’t be fit in time to make the trip to White Hart Lane this weekend.
In a double blow for Arsenal, Cech will also sit out the crucial North London Derby after aggravating a calf injury while running back from a corner during the closing stages of the Swansea defeat.
Wenger says he’s not sure how serious the injury is but confirmed that number two David Ospina will be trusted with the gloves against Spurs on Sunday.
Speaking to Arsenal.com after the game, Arsene said:
on Petr Cech…
He struggled. He had a little groin problem before the game and I think he struggled a little bit tonight. He will not play on Saturday. I trust Ospina completely.on how serious Cech’s injury is…
I don’t know, we have to see. It’s a muscular problem, a calf problem and I don’t know how long he will be out for.on Laurent Koscielny…
He has a calf problem as well. He will not play on Saturday.
The news will come as a huge double blow to Arsenal as they head across North London desperately needing to address their worrying form having slumped to a third consecutive defeat on Wednesday night.
The loss against Swansea has left the Gunners sitting third in the table and six points adrift of leaders Leicester City while second placed Tottenham are three points ahead, so defeat on Saturday could spell the end of Arsenal’s title challenge for another year.
