Arsenal Blow As Wenger Confirms Key Man Will Miss At Least 4 Games
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Aaron Ramsey’s injury is worse than he first thought and expects the midfielder to be out for around four weeks.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Aaron Ramsey’s injury is worse than he first thought and expects the midfielder to be out for around four weeks.
Ramsey came off the bench to replace Gabriel during the early stages of the second half during our 4-0 FA Cup replay victory over Hull City on Tuesday night.
However, the 25-year-old lasted just 16 minutes before going down clutching his thigh and was eventually replaced by youngster Jeff Reine-Adelaide in the 77th minute.
Wenger indicated after the game that he was hopeful the injury wasn’t too serious and has now admitted that he initially thought Ramsey had just come off as a precaution and would be available to face Watford on Sunday.
But the injury has proven to be far more serious and while Wenger has dismissed reports suggesting the midfielder will miss the rest of the season, he does expect Ramsey to be ruled out for the next four weeks.
Arsene is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
“At the moment his clinical signs are quite positive. I would say four weeks. It was a bit worse than I thought because I didn’t see it.”
“Usually when a player gets injured with a muscle, he stops and I did not have that feeling of precaution so I thought he would be available for Sunday.”
Ramsey will now sit out Sunday’s FA Cup quarter final with Watford as well as Wednesday night’s Champions League last-16 second leg with Barcelona and next weekend’s Premier League clash at Everton.
We then have the two week international break but if Ramsey is out for the full four weeks, then he’s also likely to miss the league game with Watford at the start of April but he could be back in contention for the trip to Upton Park the following week.
It’s a big blow as with Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Tomas Rosicky all still unavailable for selection, we have limited options in midfield so Mohamed Elneny is going to play a key role over the next few weeks.
