Liverpool Star To Undergo Late Fitness Test Ahead Of Borussia Dortmund Clash

Liverpool attacker Roberto Firmino will undergo a late fitness test this evening ahead of tomorrow night’s Europa League quarter final with Borussia Dortmund, according to the Express.

Firmino has been on the sidelines since suffering a hamstring injury during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford on March 17th as the Reds progressed to the last eight with a 3-1 aggregate win.

The Brazilian international narrowly missed out on making his comeback during the Premier League draw with Tottenham Hotspur as Jurgen Klopp decided against risking the 24-year-old at Anfield on Saturday.

Firmino remains a doubt for Thursday night’s Europa League first leg at Dortmund but the Express claim the attacker will travel to Germany with the rest of the Liverpool squad this afternoon.

The newspaper suggests that Klopp will give Firmino every chance to prove his fitness and with the Reds boss set to make a final decision after assessing the striker at tonight’s training session at the Westfalenstadion.

Klopp will be desperate for Firmino to be passed fit as he was in excellent form before picking up his injury last month having scored three goals in his previous four games before that Europa League match at Old Trafford.

If the Brazilian star is once again ruled out tomorrow, he could make his comeback against Stoke City on Sunday, although Klopp may decide to save him for the second leg against Dortmund at Anfield next week.

Liverpool have little left to play for in the league as Saturday’s draw with Spurs has left them trailing fourth-placed Manchester City by nine points so Klopp would be forgiven for throwing everything at the Europa League.
