Paul Merson Offers His Prediction Ahead Of Tottenham’s Clash With Man Utd

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has made his prediction ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash with Manchester United this weekend.

Spurs welcome United to White Hart Lane on Sunday afternoon for what’s going to be a crucial game at the top of the table and in the race for Champions League qualification.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men slipped seven points adrift of leaders Leicester City after being held to a 1-1 draw by Liverpool at Anfield last weekend so the North Londoners have to beat United in order to keep alive their hopes of winning the title.

The visitors are also desperate for a win as Louis van Gaal’s men go in to the weekend action sitting just one point adrift of fourth-placed Man City so they need a positive result to keep pace with their top four rivals.

With so much at stake, Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is tipping Tottenham to come out on top and keep the pressure on Leicester with a 3-1 victory over United this weekend.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said:

Again, both teams have got to win this. It’s getting to that part of the season where it’s good because draws are no good to anybody, but I don’t see anything other than a Tottenham win.

Tottenham are a very good team and I expect them to keep the pressure on Leicester. They did very well when they had to play catch up with Bournemouth and beat them quite convincingly. If Leicester don’t win then it’s a bonus.

If Leicester do win, I think that will be it. Even if Tottenham also pick up three points, they’d still be seven points behind with five games to go, so for me, this weekend is the big weekend.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-1

We’ll have to wait and see whether Merson’s prediction proves accurate but it would be a huge result for Spurs if they could win on Sunday as anything other than all three points combined with a Leicester win over Sunderland would all-but end their title hopes.
