[Player Ratings] West Ham 3-3 Arsenal: Iwobi Stars But Gabriel Flops For Gunners
Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes look to be over for another season after blowing a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with West Ham. Here are my player ratings.
Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes look to be over for another season after blowing a two-goal lead to draw 3-3 with West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez put us in control but a quick-fire double from Andy Carroll made sure the Hammers went in level at half-time. The former Liverpool striker completed a stunning hat-trick shortly after the break before Laurent Koscielny earned a point after netting a 70th minute equaliser.
Here are my player ratings:
Ospina 6.5/10 | Surprisingly chosen ahead of Petr Cech and while he wasn’t particularly at fault for any of the goals, Cech’s presence and commanding of his area may have helped tackle the threat of Carroll.
Bellerin 7/10 | Did well up against Payet and always keen to get forward but his final ball was poor at times.
Gabriel 5/10 | Really struggled up against Carroll as he gave the striker way too much room for his second and was nowhere to be seen for the third. We certainly missed Mertesacker’s aerial presence today.
Koscielny 6/10 | Also failed to cope with the physical presence of Carroll but Koscielny did make a couple of important tackles and grabbed the equaliser.
Monreal 6/10 | Failed to track Carroll for the first of his goals but was a threat going forward and almost scored a fine goal after seeing his strike cleared off the line.
Coquelin 6/10 | Worked hard in the first half as we bossed the midfield but faded after West Ham changed shape to a 4-4-2.
Elneny 7/10 | Another solid display from our January signing as he was economical with the ball and got about the pitch well.
Ozil 7.5/10 | Lovely finish to make it 0-1 and was always a threat when he was on the ball.
Iwobi 8/10 | Continued his remarkable rise with two excellent assists. Was our best player once again today.
Alexis 7/10 | Superb finish to double our lead but wasted a golden chance to win it when he elected to cut on to his right when well placed to take a left footed shot.
Welbeck 6/10 | His pace and movement caused the Hammers problems in the first half but struggled after the break before being replaced.
Subs:
Ramsey 5/10 | Back after recovering from a thigh injury but couldn’t really influence the game.
Giroud 5/10 | Game West Ham’s defence something different to think about.
Walcott N/A | A
The result leaves us sitting ten points adrift of Leicester City with just six games remaining so it’s safe to say our title chances are over, barring a miracle.
