Arsenal Hold Talks With Big-Money Duo As Wenger Looks To Sign Prolific Striker
Arsenal have held formal talks with Lyon and Everton over deals to sign Alexandre Lacazette and Romelu Lukaku as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a new striker
The opening of the summer transfer window is now open so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal told talks with Romelu Lukaku and Alexandre Lacazette…
Arsenal have held formal talks with Lyon and Everton over deals to sign Alexandre Lacazette and Romelu Lukaku as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a new striker this summer, according to the Sun.
The boss is on the market for another frontman to offer support to Olivier Giroud next season and we’ve been forced to look at alternatives after Jamie Vardy snubbed his proposed move in favour of signing a new deal at Leicester City.
It looks like Wenger has now stepped-up his attempts to land a new striker as the Sun claim that we’ve opened talks with Everton over a potential deal for Lukaku – who is understood to be the bosses prime target – and initial talks have also been held with the strikers agent.
The newspaper suggests that despite the Toffees demanding £65m, they’ll actually accept an offer in the region of £40m for Lukaku but if we fail to get a deal agreed then Arsene will then focus his attention on luring Lacazette to north London.
The Sun claim we’ve also held talks with Lyon over the past week and the Ligue 1 club want around £38m for the 25-year-old while negotiations with the French international’s representatives were conducted in France last week.
Wenger is understood to want his new striker on board before Arsenal head to America on our pre-season tour later this month but an apparent source told the paper that the boss wont rush things or overspend.
A source told the Sun:
“Arsene is keen to get a new striker in as soon as possible, but won’t rush anything and overspend.
“Olivier Giroud is very much in his plans, but he wants to get someone in and was upset about losing out on Jamie Vardy.”
Lukaku has experience of the Premier League and while he’s not the finished article just yet, he did manage to score 25 goals in all competitions for a poor Everton side last season, so I’d personally like to see the Belgian come to Arsenal this summer.
However, if Everton continue to demand silly money then Lacazette would be an excellent alternative as he’s scored 72 goals and provided 29 assists in 173 Ligue 1 games for Lyon since breaking through their academy into the first team in 2010 and has all the attributes to become a top class hitman.

It’s certainly going to be interesting to see which striker we end up buying as it’s unthinkable that Wenger will allow us to go in to another season relying on Giroud as our only main striker.
