Arsenal Set To Battle-It-Out With Barcelona For Want-Away £30m Attacker
Arsenal are set to battle-it-out with Barcelona over the signing of a £30m-rated attacker this summer after the player decided he wants a move.
The opening of the summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are back in the hunt for Riyad Mahrez….
Arsenal are showing a keen interest in Riyad Mahrez after the £30m-rated attacker decided to leave Leicester City this summer but we’ll face stiff competition from the likes of Barcelona, according to the Sun.
Mahrez was one of the stars of the season last year as he scored 17 goals and provided 10 assists to help fire Leicester to a shock Premier League title win with his sensational displays also seeing him named as the PFA Player of the Year.
The 25-year-old has understandably attracted plenty of interest with Arsenal among the clubs linked in recent weeks prompting Leicester to try and tie him down to a new long-term contract just as they did with striker Jamie Vardy last month.
However, the Sun claim that Mahrez has now snubbed the Foxes advances and made it clear he wants to leave the King Power this summer as he feels this is the perfect opportunity to join a bigger club.
The newspaper says that Arsenal are showing a keen interest in signing the Algerian international but we’ll face stiff competition from Barcelona as well as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
The news will obviously come as a crushing blow to Claudio Ranieri as he’s also set to lose N’Golo Kante to Chelsea but the Leicester boss has always said he’d rather sell an unhappy player than keep his against his will.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but Mahrez would be a superb addition to the Arsenal squad if we could manage to lure him to the Emirates this summer.
The Sun suggest that Leicester would demand at least £30m for his signature, which is more than reasonable in today’s over-inflated market, and while Barcelona and PSG are formidable competition, hopefully Mahrez wants to remain in the Premier League.

Theo Walcott has been linked with a move away this summer after losing his place under Wenger last season so Mahrez could be viewed as the ideal replacement if the England attacker does end up leaving the club.
