Chelsea Hoping To Hijack Arsenal’s Move For Unsettled £30m Attacker
Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the chase to sign want-away Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez this summer as Antonio Conte eyes another raid on the champions
The opening of the summer transfer window is now open for business so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Chelsea join the chase for Riyad Mahrez….
Chelsea have joined Arsenal in the chase to sign want-away Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez this summer as Antonio Conte eyes another raid on the newly-crowned champions, according to the Express.
Mahrez was a key driving force behind Leicester’s stunning Premier League title win last season with the attacker scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists to land the PFA Player of the Year Award.
The Foxes have been desperately trying to tie Mahrez down to a new contract but the Sun claimed on Saturday that the Algerian international has rejected their advances and made it clear he wants to leave amid strong interest from Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger has already signed midfielder Granit Xhaka while their is a deal in place to land Japanese youngster Takuma Asano but the Frenchman is on the look out for attacking reinforcements and Mahrez could be viewed as a potential replacement Theo Walcott – who’s been linked with a move away from the Emirates.
However, it looks as though the Gunners will now face stiff competition as the Express are reporting that Chelsea have now joined the chase for Mahrez’s signature as the Blues eye a second raid on Leicester following the arrival of N’Golo Kante this weekend.
Conte is looking to revamp the Chelsea squad following a disastrous season and needs new players to fit in to the 3-5-2 formation he’s expected to deploy this year, and it looks as though Mahrez is on the Italian tactician’s radar.
Leicester will no doubt do all they can to persuade him to stay at the King Power but if they are forced to sell, then the Sun suggest they will demand a fee of at least £30m – which is more than reasonable for a player of Mahrez’s quality in today’s over-inflated market.

We’ll have to wait and see how things develop over the coming days but Mahrez would be a superb signing for either Arsenal or Chelsea as he’s developed in to one of the best attackers in the Premier League following his move from Le Harve in 2014.
