Arsenal Told They Can Sign Striker for £40m After Seeing Opening Bid Rejected
Arsenal have been informed by Lyon that they will sell Alexandre Lacazette if a £40m offer is put on the table despite suggesting the striker was not for sale
The summer transfer window is in full swing so we’ll bring you all the latest transfer rumours and gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal can land Alexandre Lacazette for £40m…
Arsenal have been informed by Lyon that they will sell Alexandre Lacazette if a £40m offer is put on the table despite suggesting the striker was not for sale on Tuesday, according to the Mirror.
Arsene Wenger has been desperately trying to bring in another top class striker this summer after missing out on top target Jamie Vardy and Lacazette has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent weeks.
Our pursuit looked set for disappointment once again after Lyon took to Twitter yesterday to claim that they had rejected a £29.3m offer from Arsenal and insisted that Lacazette was not for sale this summer at any price.
The Mirror quoted Lyon’s statement as saying:
“The truth is that Arsenal made a formal offer of €35m (£29m) to which Lyon have not responded for this one reason: Lyon will keep Lacazette, who is irreplaceable and one of the leading players in Bruno Genesio’s squad.”
However, despite this public statement, the Mirror claim that Lyon have informed Arsenal that they are in fact willing to do business for Lacazette if we agree to pay £40m plus additional bonuses for the striker.
The newspaper suggests that the French outfit had made this clear before we tabled our £29.3m bid so it looks like Wenger has decided to test the water with a low opening offer and you’d expect us to return with an improved bid soon.
We’ll have to wait and see whether the boss is willing to meet Lyon’s reported £40m+ asking price but we need to bring in another striker as quickly as possible as Olivier Giroud is expected to miss the opening stages of the new season due to his late arrival following his exploits at Euro 2016.
I wouldn’t fancy our chances of beating Liverpool in two weeks time if we haven’t got a new front-man on board, to the extent that I’d actually be tempted to bet on the Merseysiders. You can get 12/5 on a Liverpool win at the Emirates and you could even have a free bet if you use a Ladbrokes promotional code so I think it would be a no-brainer if Wenger doesn’t act quickly in the market for a new striker.

Lacazette could make all the difference as he’s scored 54 goals over the past two seasons and at 25, the French international has his best years ahead of him and has plenty of time to develop his game even further.
