Klopp Offers Update After Liverpool Suffer Triple Injury Blow Ahead Of Arsenal
Liverpool have been hit by a triple injury concern ahead of their Premier League opener against Arsenal next weekend with three key men doubts for the game.
Liverpool have been hit by a triple injury concern ahead of their Premier League opener against Arsenal next weekend with Daniel Sturridge, James Milner and Dejan Lovren all doubts for the game.
Sturridge was forced to miss Saturday’s hugely impressive 4-0 victory over La Liga champions Barcelona with the club confirming that the England international was suffering from a ‘minor hip injury’.
The striker will now miss Liverpool’s final pre-season game at Mainz this afternoon and the Express claim that the 26-year-old will almost certainly be ruled out of the Merseysiders trip to the Emirates next Sunday.
Sturridge suffered a serious hip injury last season so I’m sure Jurgen Klopp will be cautious with the striker but it will be a real blow for him to start the new campaign once again on the treatment table.
Milner could join Sturridge on the sidelines after the versatile midfielder was forced off during yesterday’s win over Barca with a heel injury and headed straight down the tunnel with the clubs physio after being replaced.
The 30-year-old started the game filling in for Alberto Moreno at left-back but hobbled off shortly before half-time and was seen leaving Wembley on crutches.
Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the game, Klopp confirmed that the injury doesn’t look good but says they have to wait for a scan before they’ll know the full extent of the problem.
“Milly, it doesn’t look too good. We have no real idea what it is but it’s something with the heel and we have to do a scan and then we’ll know more.”
Liverpool will be praying that the injury isn’t as serious as it first looks but Milner is now considered as a major doubt to face Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season.
And in a triple blow for Liverpool, another player who’s facing a race against time to make the trip to the capital is Lovren as the defender was taken off during the closing stages of the win over Barcelona.
The Croatian international hobbled off in the 89th minute clutching his hamstring and was seen limping heavily as he left Wembley so it’s another worry for Klopp ahead of their season opener against the Gunners.
However, Liverpool aren’t the only ones with fitness concerns as Arsene Wenger is also expected to be without a number of important first team players for the big kick off.
