Arsenal Boss Offers Jack Wilshere Injury Update Ahead Of Liverpool Game

Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Jack Wilshere’s injury situation ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Liverpool this weekend.
Wilshere was forced to miss Arsenal’s final three pre-season games after suffering a patella [knee] injury while away on the clubs pre-season tour of the United States.
The England international was only initially expected to be out for a matter of days and was tipped to be available for selection when the Gunners welcome Liverpool to the Emirates on Sunday.
However, Wenger’s latest update casts doubt over Wilshere’s availability for the big kick off as the Arsenal boss offers no indication that the midfielder is on the verge of returning to action from his latest injury.
Wenger does say the problem ‘looks very minor’ but the Frenchman said the same thing 10 days ago and if Wilshere was going to be ready for the Liverpool game in just four days time, you’d expect the Arsenal manager to have made that clear.
He’s quoted as saying by the Express:
“He has a very big year ahead – I must say his preparation was encouraging,”
“He had a little setback recently but its looks very minor and of course for us to have a great season it is important to have a great Jack Wilshere.”
So it looks like Wilshere is set to miss the start of the new campaign but he’ll be desperate to get back up to full fitness as soon as possible after missing virtually the whole of last season with a fibula injury.
The news will come as another blow to Arsenal as Wenger is already going to be without the injured Danny Welbeck, Gabriel and Per Mertesacker while Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny are all expected to miss the Liverpool game after only returning to pre-season training this week.
