Arsenal Handed Fresh Injury Blow After Attacker Ruled Out For A Month
Arsenal have been handed yet another injury blow with the news that an attacker has been ruled out for up to a month with an injury sustained against Liverpool
Arsenal have been handed yet another injury blow with the news that Alex Iwobi has been ruled out for up to a month with a thigh injury sustained against Liverpool, according to the Mirror.
Iwobi was handed another start by Arsene Wenger during our hugely disappointing 4-3 defeat to Liverpool in our opening game of the new Premier League season on Sunday afternoon.
The 20-year-old limped off shortly after half time and was replaced by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain after picking up a thigh injury and Iwobi took to Twitter after the game to tell his followers that he was hoping the problem wasn’t too serious.
However, the attacker has undergone further assessment and it looks like we’ve been dealt another blow as the Mirror claim that the Nigerian international has now been ruled out for up to a month.
It means Iwobi will now miss Saturday’s trip to the King Power to face champions Leicester City and the trip to Vicarage Road to take on Watford the following week before the upcoming international break.
Thankfully there is then a two week period without any Arsenal games so Iwobi will have a chance to recover before hopefully being in contention when we welcome Southampton to the Emirates on September 10th.
The news will come as a blow as Iwobi has established himself as an important part of the first team squad over the past 12 months but he’s now joined Aaron Ramsey on the sidelines after the Welshman was also ruled out for a month with a hamstring problem.
The season has only just begun but the injuries are already starting to pile up as Iwobi and Ramsey join Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista after the defenders picked up serious injuries in pre-season.
There is some positive team news though, as Laurent Koscielny, Mesut Ozil and Olivier Giroud are expected to return to the squad this weekend after missing the Liverpool game following their late arrival to pre-season.
