Sky Sports Pundit Offers His Predicted Score For Chelsea & Tottenham Games
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has offered his predicted scores for this weekend’s big games between Watford vs Chelsea and Tottenham vs Crystal Palace.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is back and he’s offered his predicted scores for this weekend’s big games between Watford vs Chelsea and Tottenham vs Crystal Palace.
Antonio Conte made a winning start to life at Stamford Bridge with Diego Costa scoring a late, albeit controversial, winner to secure a 2-1 victory over West Ham on Monday night.
The Brazilian-born hitman was fortunate to stay on the field following a challenge on Adrian before he scored his late winner but Chelsea were still good value for their win and Conte will be hoping to make it successive victories tomorrow.
Watford played well against Southampton and were perhaps unfortunate not to leave St Mary’s with all three points following their 1-1 draw, however, Merson is predicting that Chelsea will just edge it at Vicarage Road tomorrow.
He said in his Sky Sports column:
Watford v Chelsea
I thought Chelsea played well against West Ham. They got lucky, don’t get me wrong, because Diego Costa should have gone but it was a good start against a solid team.
Watford were outstanding against Southampton in the first half at St Mary’s and their defensive shape worked a treat. They had the Saints penned back at times, which was impressive.
There are positive signs for Walter Mazzarri, but I’m going for Chelsea to edge it at Vicarage Road.
PAUL PREDICTS: 1-2
Tottenham began their new season with a hard fought 1-1 draw at Everton last weekend with the north Londoners coming from a goal down to secure a point at Goodison Park.
Mauricio Pochettino will be looking for an improved performance from his players on home soil tomorrow and they should be confident of getting all three points if Crystal Palace play as they did during the opening weekend.
Alan Pardew’s men slumped to a hugely disappointing 1-0 defeat to West Brom at Selhurst Park so they’ll be desperate to bounce back with a positive showing at White Hart Lane this weekend.
However, Merson feels Spurs will have too much for their London rivals and will ease to a 2-0 victory tomorrow. He continued:
Tottenham v Crystal Palace
Spurs were disappointing in the first half against Everton, who should have been out of sight at half-time, but they improved after the break.
Palace had a shocking result at home and it looks like they need a forward. Dwight Gayle has gone, Yannick Bolasie just went and they fired blanks against West Brom so it’s a bit of a strange one.
Tottenham don’t have that problem because Harry Kane gets better as the season goes on and I’m going for a home win.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0
