Sky Sports Pundit Offers His Predicted Score For Man Utd & Liverpool Games
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is back and he’s offered his predicted scores for this weekend’s big games between Man Utd vs Southampton and Burnley vs Liverpool
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is back and he’s offered his predicted scores for this weekend’s big games between Man Utd vs Southampton and Burnley vs Liverpool.
United kick off an other fascinating weekend of Premier League football as they host Southampton at Old Trafford tonight for what will be Jose Mourinho’s first home game in charge.
Fans will be desperate to get a first glimpse of Paul Pogba but they may have to wait as Merson isn’t convinced Mourinho will change his starting line-up after seeing United ease to a 3-1 win at Bournemouth last weekend.
Southampton were disappointing in their opening game after being held to a 1-1 draw by Watford at St Mary’s last Saturday and Merson believes that United will secure a relatively comfortable 2-0 win over the south coast club this evening.
He said in his Sky Sports column:
Man Utd v Southampton
Southampton started poorly against Watford, who were well on top in the first half. They clawed their way back to get a draw, but they’ll need to be much better against United.
I’m not sure if Paul Pogba will play to be honest because I’d be surprised if Mourinho changed his team.
It’s his first home game and while they didn’t play great at Bournemouth on Sunday, they still got a good result, and I think it will be fairly comfortable on Friday.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-0
Agree with Merse? Then back United to beat Southampton at crazy odds of 4/1
Liverpool will then be looking to build on their impressive opening weekend victory over Arsenal last Sunday when they take on Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s men looked dangerous in attack during the 4-3 win at the Emirates and Merson is predicting that the Merseysiders will be among the goals again this weekend against newly-promoted Burnley.
Sean Dyche’s side slumped to a 1-0 defeat to Swansea in their first game back in the Premier League following their promotion from the Championship and Merson feels they’ll slip to another loss tomorrow.
He continued in his Sky Sports column:
Burnley v Liverpool
I was a little disappointed in Burnley. At home, I thought they had to go for the win but they didn’t create much and with virtually the same team that got them promoted, it looks like a long season ahead.
There’s a big gap from the Sky Bet Championship to the Premier League and I expect Liverpool to win this.
I don’t think many teams will go to Burnley and take them apart because they are well organised and have a good manager, but Liverpool look dangerous in attack.
They will be able to cope without Sadio Mane if he’s out for an extended period because Jurgen Klopp has plenty of options going forward. It’s in defence that he has problems.
PAUL PREDICTS: 1-3
Agree with Merse? Then back Liverpool to beat Burnley at crazy odds of 5/1
It’s gearing up to be another exciting weekend of top flight football and like Merson, I think we’re going to see United and Liverpool continue their 100% starts to the season with wins over Southampton and Burnley.
