Manchester United may have missed out on Champions League football this season but qualified automatically for the group stages of the Europa League after finishing fifth in the Premier League last season.
Jose Mourinho’s men were first out of the hat at today’s draw and have been pitted against Turkish giants Fenerbache meaning United will be up against former striker Robin van Persie.
The Red Devils will also take on Dutch outfit Feyenoord in Group A [meaning van Persie will return to two former clubs] and Ukrainian minnows Zorya Luhansk.
The games with Fenerbache and Feyenoord could be tricky but Mourinho will still be confident of topping the group and progressing to the knockout stages of the competition.
Southampton also qualified for the group stages of the Europa League following their sixth-placed finish last season and the south coast club have been drawn in Group K along with Serie A giants Inter Milan, Czech side Sparta Prague and Israeli outfit Hapoel Beer Sheva.
It’s a tricky group for the Saints but boss Claude Puel should be reasonably confident that they can qualify for the next stage, probably as runners-up behind Inter.
