The summer transfer window is now closed for another year but it’s not time to look back on those deals that didn’t go through and those that are being lined-up for the future. Today, Arsenal made a move for Miguel Almiron…
The agent of Paraguay winger Miguel Almiron has confirmed that Arsenal made a late approach for the Lanus star before the summer transfer window slammed shut, according to the Sun via the Mirror.
Arsene Wenger splashed out over £50m to sign defender Shkodran Mustafi and striker Lucas Perez during the final days of the summer market and most of deadline day was dominated by Jack Wilshere’s loan move to Bournemouth.
However, it seems the boss may have been secretly working on another late deal as the Daily Star reported earlier this week that Arsenal had tabled a £9.4m bid for Lanus winger Miguel Almiron.
The newspaper cited reports coming from Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb that suggested the Argentinean club were holding out for a fee closer to £11m but negotiations between the two parties were continuing ahead of a potential deadline day move.
No deal was done in the end but Almiron’s agent has confirmed that Arsenal did make an approach for the 22-year-old and while he suggests that any potential move is ‘for the future’ he says the player would jump at the chance of joining Arsenal.
Agent Daniel Campos is quoted as saying by the Mirror.
“Actually there was an approach, but it didn’t go any further. I see it more for the future.
“No doubt he’d be delighted to play in the Premier League and for Arsenal.”
Almiron moved to Lanus last summer after coming through the youth ranks at Cerro Porteno and he enjoyed a decent first campaign having scored 4 goals in his 16 appearances last season.
The youngster also played for Paraguay at this summers Copa America having previously played for the Under-20’s and is highly regarded in his South American homeland, so he would be an interesting signing if we were to renew our interest in the future.

Almiron is predominantly a left-winger but is also capable of playing on the right or even through the middle as an attacking midfielder so he’d give Wenger plenty of options in the final third if he was to ever make the move to north London.
