Arsenal Team News: Update On Ramsey, Mustafi, Perez & More
Here is a team news and injury update ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Southampton including details on Aaron Ramsey, Shkodran Mustafi, Lucas Perez and more.
Aaron Ramsey is set to miss Arsenal’s Premier league clash with Southampton on Saturday but Shkodran Mustafi is set to make his debut, according to the Telegraph.
Ramsey has been on the sidelines since suffering a hamstring injury during our 4-3 defeat to Liverpool at the Emirates on the opening weekend of the new season.
Arsene Wenger had initially said he expected to the Welshman to be back in contention after the international break but the Telegraph claim that the boss is now set to give Rambo another few days to recover.
With a trip to Paris Saint-Germain coming up next Tuesday and a huge league clash with Chelsea the following weekend, it seems Wenger doesn’t want to risk Ramsey against the Saints this weekend.
However, the newspaper suggests that Alex Iwobi will be available for selection after recovering from a thigh injury which he also picked up during the opening weekend defeat to Liverpool.
We should also get our first sight of Shkodran Mustafi in an Arsenal shirt as the Telegraph claim that the German international is expected to start alongside Laurent Koscielny in the middle of defence after joining from Valencia last week.
Lucas Perez was our other big-money signing just before deadline day but the paper believes that the striker is set to be named among the substitutes with Olivier Giroud likely to make his first start up front having returned to full fitness [unless he picks up an injury while playing for France tonight].
With Giroud returning up front, Alexis Sanchez should move back to the wing with Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain vying for the other place in attack along with Mesut Ozil.
Danny Welbeck, Per Mertesacker, Carl Jenkinson and Gabriel all remain out with long-term injuries but we’ve now got a squad capable of dealing with our inevitable injury problems, which can only be a good thing moving forward.
