Arsenal Suffer Major Concern After Star Picks Up Injury On International Duty
Arsenal have suffered a major injury concern with one of our key men suffering a knock while away on international duty. Find out all the details here
Arsenal have received a major injury concern after Hector Bellerin suffered an ankle problem while away on international duty with the Spanish under-21’s this week, according to the Metro.
Bellerin was named in the senior Spanish squad for last summer’s European Championship finals but was overlooked by new boss Julen Lopetegui for their World Cup qualifiers against Italy and Albania during this international break.
It meant the Arsenal right-back dropped down to the under-21 squad and Bellerin was handed a start during their Euro 2017 qualifier at San Marino on Wednesday night but unfortunately the 21-year-old was unable to complete the game.
Hector was forced off in the 88th minute after receiving what the Metro report as being a ‘nasty tackle’ to his right ankle and the defender was unable to train with the rest of the squad on Thursday.
Bellerin is now awaiting the results of a scan to determine the full extent of the injury and while there is a feeling the problem isn’t a serious one, I’m sure Arsene Wenger is sweating over the results nonetheless.
We’ve already been without defenders Gabriel, Carl Jenkinson and Per Mertesacker for the majority of the season so far and it would be a huge blow if Bellerin was ruled out for any period of time.
The young Spaniard has established himself as our first choice right-back and has been in excellent form this season so fingers crossed the scan results come back positive as we’ve got a hectic few weeks coming up.
We welcome Swansea to the Emirates next weekend and have games against Ludogorets, Middlesbrough, Reading and Sunderland to come before the end of the month so we need Bellerin to be fit otherwise the boss is going to have to call upon the out-of-favour Mathieu Debuchy to fill in.
