Arsenal and Chelsea are plotting an audacious swoop for Sergio Aguero after his long-term future under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City was thrown in to doubt, according to the Express.
Aguero joined City from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has been a huge success at the Etihad Stadium, scoring 147 goals in 219 appearances to help the club win two Premier League titles and two League Cups.
However, the Argentinean international has struggled for form and fitness this season and was dropped by new boss Guardiola for City’s huge Champions League clash at Barcelona earlier this month.
Guardiola has wasted no time in putting his own stamp on the City team since his arrival in the summer with Joe Hart loaned out to Tornio and Yaya Toure frozen out of the squad entirely.
The Express claim that Aguero could be the next high profile casualty of Guardiola’s revolution as the former Barca coach looks to bring in a new world class striker at the end of the season.
It seems there will be plenty of interest in the 28-year-old as the newspaper cites reports coming from Spain that suggest Arsenal and Chelsea are among the clubs who are readying bids should Aguero come on the market next summer.
Understandably, there will also be interest from abroad so the London duo will face stiff competition for Aguero’s signature with the Express also naming Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain as potential suitors.
It’s certainly an intriguing situation as Aguero has been widely regarded as one of the best strikers in world football in recent years so it would no doubt come as a shock if Guardiola was to axe him next summer.
However, the Spanish coach obviously has his own vision for the City team and if Aguero doesn’t fit the mold of striker he wants, then we could see the South American hitman be on the move at the end of the season as a player of his quality won’t sit on the bench.
Arsenal have been searching for a world class striker ever since Robin van Persie left and I think Aguero would be a sensational addition at the Emirates while Chelsea have the financial muscle to finance a deal if Antonio Conte feels he’s the man to compete with Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge.

However, I’d personally be shocked if City were to do business with a domestic rival for Aguero and if he is to leave the Etihad next summer, then I would expect he’ll head back to Spain.
