Man Utd Handed Timely Injury Boost As Forgotten Man Returns To Training
Man Utd have been handed a timely injury boost with the news that a forgotten man has returned to full training after recovering from his latest injury setback
Manchester United have been handed a timely injury boost with the news that Phil Jones has returned to full training after recovering from his latest injury setback, according to the Daily Mail.
Jones is yet to feature under new boss Jose Mourinho this season after suffering a knee ligament injury in training ahead of United’s Europa League clash with Feyenoord back in early September.
It was the latest setback during what’s been a difficult couple of years for the 24-year-old as Jones has struggled for fitness and made just 13 appearances during the 2015/16 campaign due to a number of injuries, including blood clots in his calf.
However, the forgotten centre-back is now on the road to recovery as the Daily Mail claim that Jones is back in full training with the rest of the United first team squad at Carrington this week.
The England international’s return has come at the perfect time for Mourinho as he’ll provide cover at the back following the news that Eric Bailly has been ruled out for two months with a knee ligament injury that he sustained against Chelsea last weekend.
Chris Smalling also sat out Wednesday night’s League Cup win over Manchester City with a foot injury leaving United short of options at centre-back with Marcos Rojo forced to play alongside Daley Blind in midweek.
Jones will no doubt need some time to get himself back up to full match fitness before he’ll be pushing for a place in the squad but the defender will be desperate to try and take this opportunity to finally establish himself as an important player at United.
The centre-back has struggled to hold down a regular place at Old Trafford since joining the Red Devils from Blackburn Rovers in a £16.5m deal back in 2011 and has made just 92 league starts in over five years.
