Manchester United star Antonio Valencia has vowed to come back stronger after being ruled out for at least six weeks with a fractured arm.
Valencia suffered the injury during United’s EFL Cup win over Manchester City at Old Trafford last week and was ruled out of the hugely frustrating 0-0 draw with Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
The Ecuadorian international underwent surgery to repair the fracture over the weekend and while United haven’t given any official timescale over his recovery, the Express claim that Valencia will miss a minimum of six weeks meaning he’ll sit out crucial games against the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham.
The 31-year-old has now taken to Instagram to tell his 750,000 followers that he’s focused on his recovery and hopes to return stronger than ever once he’s recovered from his arm injury.
Valencia posted:
The news is a huge blow to United as Valencia has been one of their most consistent performers after establishing himself as Mourinho’s first choice right-back having made 11 appearances in all competitions so far this season.
Italian defender Matteo Darmian filled-in at right-back on Saturday and now looks set for an extended spell in the starting eleven just weeks after it looked like his career at Old Trafford was all-but over having fallen out-of-favour under Jose Mourinho.
Valencia’s injury is the latest blow to United after Eric Bailly was ruled out for two months with a knee ligament injury earlier this month while Chris Smalling has missed the last three games, meaning Mourinho is without three of his first choice back four.
