Man Utd Suffer Injury Scare Ahead Of Arsenal Clash As Rooney Misses Training

Manchester United have been dealt an injury scare ahead of their crunch game against Arsenal with skipper Wayne Rooney forced to miss England training today.

Rooney played the full 90 minutes during the Three Lions 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Scotland at Wembley and showed no sign of picking up any sort of knock during the game on Friday night.

However, there was no sign of the United captain during an open training session in Enfield this morning with the official England Twitter account confirming that Rooney has been forced to miss the session through injury.

No further details were given over the specific nature of the injury but the good news for United and England is that the problem is described as a ‘minor issue’ so it doesn’t sound like Rooney should spend too long on the sidelines.

The 31-year-old could now miss England’s friendly with Spain at Wembley tomorrow night and I’m sure Jose Mourinho will be keen for more information as he prepares his team to welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime.

Rooney fell out-of-favour under Mourinho last month having been dropped to the bench for four consecutive games but he returned to the starting eleven with a superb goal during the Champions League defeat at Fenerbahce earlier this month.

The former Everton striker kept his place for the trip to Swansea and grabbed two assists during the 3-1 win last Sunday so Rooney is expected to lead United out against the Gunners this weekend as long as he recovers from this minor knock.
