Arsenal face an uphill battle to finish top of their Champions League group after drawing 2-2 with Paris Saint-Germain at the Emirates on Wednesday night. Here are three players who disappointed for the miss-firing Gunners:
1) Mesut Ozil
The German international struggled to get in the game or have any real influence as the supply to our chief playmaker was almost non-exsistent. It was a similar story against Manchester United at the weekend and I don’t think it’s any coincidence that Ozil’s drop in form has coincided with Santi Cazorla’s injury and Granit Xhaka’s axing from the team.
Without a deep lying passing expert in the side, the ball simply isn’t finding Ozil often enough and it’s stifling his performances. Mesut still managed to produce a fine reverse pass to find Alexis Sanchez in the build up to the penalty, but otherwise he was ineffective.
2) Alex Iwobi
The 20-year-old was recalled to the starting eleven after being left out of the side in recent weeks but Iwobi failed to take his chance with a disappointing display overall. The midfielder struggled to find his fluency and many attacks broke down when he was in possession.
He works hard and is clearly eager to impress but his final ball and finishing is poor. It might just be a confidence thing right now as we all know he has the ability but Iwobi is looking a shadow of the player he was earlier in the season. Let’s hope he rediscovers his form soon.

3) Olivier Giroud
Giroud made no mistake with his penalty to level the score at 1-1 but otherwise he was disappointing on his return to the starting eleven and was easily marked out of the game by Silva and Marquinhos.
Giroud’s lack of movement was evident throughout the match and he failed to pose any sort of threat in or around the box. With virtually no decent crosses being put in the box all game, Giroud was ineffective and only highlighted that we’re a far more dangerous side with Alexis Sanchez through the middle.
He may not like it, but the French international is a useful weapon to have off the bench and that should be his primary role this season.
