Man City Team News: Duo To Miss Liverpool Game But Guardiola Confirms Injury Boost
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that two of his players have been ruled out of the game against Liverpool but a key man has been passed fit.
Manchester City will be looking to give their title challenge a major boost when they take on Liverpool at Anfield on New Year’s Eve.
Ahead of the game, Pep Guardiola has been speaking to the media at his pre-match press conference this afternoon and he’s offered ManCity.com a team news and injury update.
The Spaniard confirmed a huge injury boost with the news that John Stones is recovering well after picking up a knee injury during the win over Hull City on Boxing Day.
Stones limped off midway through the first half after suffering a blow to his knee but the injury turned out to be nothing serious and the England international is now expected to face Liverpool tomorrow.
City will also be buoyed by the return of Sergio Aguero after their star striker completed a four-game ban and the Argentinean international is set to be given an immediate recall to the starting eleven this weekend.
However, there wasn’t such positive news on the fitness of Leroy Sane as Guardiola has confirmed that the attacker has failed to recover from a knock that ruled him out of the Hull game earlier this week.
The German youngster will therefore remain on the sidelines along with Vincent Kompany as the skipper is still working his way back to full fitness from a knee injury that he sustained against Crystal Palace in November.
Guardiola told the clubs official website:
“John is much, much better. Vincent and Leroy I think will not be available to play.
“Aguero is ready – he came back good from Argentina. Finally, he came back after four games ban and we are happy he is back.”

City head in to the weekend action sitting third in the table, just one point adrift of tomorrow’s opposition and seven behind leaders Chelsea, so Guardiola will be desperate to come away with a much-needed win to give their title challenge a huge lift.
