Agent Hints At Summer Move After Revealing Arsenal’s £35m Bid For Man Utd Target
An agent has hinted that a world class defender could be on the move after claiming that Arsenal saw a £35m bid rejected for the Man Utd target.
Managers are now making moves to try and strengthen their squads during the January transfer window so we’ll bring you all the latest gossip from around the globe. Today, Arsenal are linked with Kostas Manolas….
The agent of Kostas Manolas has claimed that Arsenal saw a £35m offer rejected by Roma for the Manchester United target last summer, according to quotes in the Mirror.
Manolas made his name at Olympicos and was strongly linked with a move to the Premier League before he eventually ended up signing for Roma back in the summer of 2014.
The 25-year-old has continued to impress during his time in Italy with the defender developing in to one of the most highly-rated in Europe and he was once again linked with a move to England last summer.
It appears Arsenal were among the clubs vying for his signature as the Greek international’s agent, John Evangelopoulos, has been quoted in the Mirror as saying that the Gunners tabled a £35m offer for Manolas’s services.
However, it looks like Arsene Wenger was forced to withdraw his interest and move on to other targets after the Serie A giants knocked back their offer and demanded a fee deemed beyond the north Londoners reach.
Manolas has once again been in the gossip pages in recent weeks with the Metro reporting earlier this week that Manchester United are plotting a £47.6m bid and Evangelopoulos has hinted that the defender could be on the move again this summer.
He’s quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“Over the summer Roma rejected an offer of €40m (£35m) from Arsenal. The Gunners were interested but Roma’s demands were too much for the English club.
“Probably a sale in June? I cannot say for sure, but probably there will be something this summer. But in general in the world of football, it is difficult to make predictions.”
Manolas would be a superb signing for any club as he’s a world class centre-back who’s played a key role to help Roma keep pace with leaders Juventus this season so I’d love to see him come to England this summer.
Arsenal’s interest probably ended when they saw their offer rejected last summer as Wenger eventually signed Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia so I don’t think we’ll see the Gunners back in for Manolas any time soon.
However, United could certainly be in the running for his signature as the Manchester giants have the financial muscle to pay the kind of money it would take for Roma to sell.

Phil Jones has rediscovered his form in recent months but I still think Mourinho will look to bring in another top class centre-back at the end of the season and Manolas could form a rock solid partnership with Eric Bailly if a deal was to be agreed.
