First Ramsey & Ox, Now Arsenal Boss Reveals Fresh Injury Concern Ahead Of Chelsea
Arsenal’s injury crisis has deepened ahead of their clash with Chelsea after Wenger revealed that Francis Coquelin is a doubt for the trip to Stamford Bridge
Arsenal’s injury crisis has deepened ahead of their clash with Chelsea after Arsene Wenger revealed that Francis Coquelin is also a doubt for the trip to Stamford Bridge, according to the Express.
Coquelin was named in the starting line-up for Arsenal’s game with Watford on Tuesday night and was substituted in the 67th minute during the north Londoners shock 2-1 defeat.
The switch was thought to be tactical as Coquelin was replaced by striker Lucas Perez as the Gunners tried to find a late equaliser but it seems the midfielder could actually have been carrying a knock.
The Express claim that while speaking to the press after the game last night, Wenger revealed that Coquelin suffered an injury and is a doubt to take on Chelsea this weekend.
There is no further information as to what kind of injury the Frenchman has supposedly picked up but it’s the last thing Arsenal needed heading in to a crunch clash with the league leaders.
It compounds what was a nightmare evening for the Gunners as Aaron Ramsey is already set to miss the Chelsea clash after suffering a calf strain against Watford.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also finished the defeat last night limping after taking a kick to his knee but Wenger is confident the 23-year-old will recover to face the Blues on Saturday lunchtime.
The Arsenal boss will now pray that Coquelin is able to make a swift recovery as with Granit Xhaka suspended, Mohamed Elneny at the African Cup of Nations and Santi Cazorla injured, the north Londoners are down to the bare bones in midfield.
It’s not the ideal situation as Arsenal head to Stamford Bridge sitting nine points adrift of Chelsea so Wenger knows his side need to win in order to keep alive any faint hopes of winning the title.
