Liverpool Injury Doubt To Be Assessed Ahead Of Tottenham Clash

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is a doubt for this weekends clash with Tottenham after being assessed by the clubs medical staff at Melwood this afternoon, according to the Mirror.
Lovren was forced to miss Saturday’s trip to Hull City after picking up a knee injury and the Croatian international was sorely missed as the Merseysiders crashed to a 2-0 defeat at the KCOM Stadium.
The Mirror claim that Lovren was assessed by Liverpool’s medical staff at Melwood this afternoon to see whether there is sufficient damage for the centre-back to be sent for further tests to determine the full extent of the injury.
The results of the initial assessment are not yet known so Lovren remains a doubt for this weekend’s crucial visit of second-placed Tottenham to Anfield.
No doubt Jurgen Klopp will be desperate to have the 27-year-old available as Lovren has been a mainstay in the German coaches starting eleven this season, making 23 appearances in all competitions so far.
Liverpool head in to the weekend action off the back of a disastrous run of form that’s seen them win just one game since the turn of the year – which was a narrow win over Plymouth in their FA Cup replay.
The results have seen Liverpool slide down the table and they are currently sitting outside the top four so Klopp will be keen to get their season back on track with a positive result over high-flying Tottenham this weekend.
If Lovren is ruled out, then Ragnar Klavan could come back in to partner Joel Matip at the back – assuming the Estonian international will recover from the illness that kept him out against Hull.
