Liverpool Ready To Table Audacious £40m Bid For World Class Hitman
Liverpool are ready to hijack Manchester City’s move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by tabling an ambitious £40m bid for the Borussia Dortmund hitman
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Liverpool are linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang…
Liverpool are ready to hijack Manchester City’s move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by tabling an ambitious £40m bid for the Borussia Dortmund hitman, according to a report in the Mirror.
Aubameyang has developed in to one of the leading strikers in European football since replacing Robert Lewandowski as Dortmund’s main striker having scored 101 goals and provided a further 32 assists in his 167 appearances.
The 27-year-old has attracted plenty of interest after netting 21 goals in his 24 games so far this season with a number of top clubs touted as potential suitors for the Gabon international.
The Mirror are now citing a report originating from the Sun that claims Liverpool are now ready to hijack Manchester City’s attempts to sign Aubameyang this summer.
Liverpool’s once promising season has been derailed in recent weeks and Jurgen Klopp is expected to undertake another busy summer of rebuilding at Anfield with a striker seemingly on the agenda.
Daniel Sturridge has struggled to establish himself this season having managed just 2 Premier League goals so far and it looks like the England international might be sacrificed to help fund Klopp’s ambitious transfer plans.
The Mirror claims that Liverpool will sell Sturridge at the end of the season to help finance a £40m bid for Aubameyang as Klopp looks to be reunited with the pacey hitman at Anfield.
The pair know each other well from their time together at Dortmund and Aubameyang would certainly be a major coup if Liverpool were able to win the race for his signature.
The good news for the Merseysiders is that Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke recently admitted that they may be forced to sell Aubameyang this summer, however, he also suggested it would take an offer closer to £68.5m in order to land the prolific striker.
He’s quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“We can never guarantee that a player will stay with Borussia Dortmund forever, but our strength is to always find new solutions.
“Auba was our alternative to ‘the world ending’ after Lewandowski’s departure. With an €80m [£68.5m] offer, I would be thinking about [club president] Reinhard Rauball and [sporting director] Michael Zorc – if we had one, we would have to get together with Pierre-Emerick [to discuss it].”
I don’t think there is any chance that Liverpool will be successful if they table an opening £40m offer as Aubameyang is certainly worth a lot more in today’s overly-inflated market.

However, I’m sure Reds fans will be glad to hear the club have such ambitious targets so it’s gearing up to be an exciting summer at Anfield.
