Man Utd Favourites Ahead Of Man City To Sign £40m Serie A Star
Manchester United are favourites ahead of Manchester City to sign AC Milan’s £40m-rated goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, according to reports
The January transfer window is now closed but we can still look at deals that failed to get across the line and those being lined-up for the summer. Today, Man Utd are favourites to land Gianluigi Donnarumma…
Manchester United are favourites ahead of Manchester City to sign AC Milan’s £40m-rated goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, according to the Mirror.
Donnarumma joined Milan’s youth system from Napoli in 2013 and he’s emerged as one of the hottest young goalkeepers in world football having made his first team debut last season aged just 16 years and 242 days.
The youngster – who turned 18 this month – has now established himself as Milan’s first choice keeper and has already made over 50 appearances for the Serie A giants while he’s also earned his first caps for the senior Italian national team having represented his country at youth level.
Donnarumma’s potential has caught the attention of clubs in the Premier League with the Mirror claiming that Manchester United are red hot favourites to beat Manchester City to the talented stoppers signature.
The newspaper says that United scouts have been watching Donnarumma all season and the Red Devils are in pole position ahead of their rivals to secure a deal for the £40m-rated keeper at the end of the season.
United already have a world class keeper in David De Gea but the Mirror suggest that Jose Mourinho is making contingency plans in-case the Spaniard decides he wants to return to Spain with Real Madrid being tipped to renew their interest this summer.
The report claims that United have privately accepted that they will lose De Gea sooner or later and it seems Mourinho has identified Donnarumma as the man to take over from the 26-year-old Spanish international.
City are in desperate need to bring in a top class keeper as Claudio Bravo’s signing has been a nightmare and Willy Caballero hasn’t convinced either so Donnarumma would be an ideal long-term solution, but it looks as though they face a tough time competing against United.
Milan will no doubt be keen to keep hold of the teenage stopper but they don’t have the financial muscle to offer the kind of wages that United or City could put on the table and they would find it hard to resist if a big bid came in this summer.

We’ll have to have and see how things develop over the coming months but Donnarumma is destined to become one of the best keepers in the world so I think he’d be a superb signing if either United or City could get a deal agreed.
